My 5-Minute Beach Glow: 6 Summer Essentials I Love

Here’s my favorite thing about a beach look: it’s barely a look at all. Every product below is something I already reach for in my everyday routine — none of it is beach-only — but summer is when they really earn their keep, layering into an easy, glowy, protection-first look in about five minutes.

A couple of these I put on before I ever leave the house. The rest live in my beach bag for topping up glow (and shade) through the day. Here’s the whole lineup.

Before I leave the house

1. A tinted SPF that doubles as my base

This is my everyday base year-round, and it’s what I smooth on before a beach day too. It’s a tinted SPF 50+ with a dewy finish, so it protects, evens out my skin, and gives that lit-from-within look in one step — no foundation required. My whole “face” is done in about a minute.

2. The lip stain I put on before I go

I apply this before I head out and it just… stays. Hours later there’s still a soft wash of color left behind, which is exactly why I don’t need to carry it with me — I do this step at home and forget about it.

Full honesty: I haven’t worked my way through a pile of lip stains to find the best one. I didn’t need to. This one is so good that I’ve genuinely never felt the urge to try another, and for me that’s a bigger compliment than any side-by-side comparison.

3. An SPF lip gloss for topping up

Lips get sun too, and they’re the one spot almost everyone forgets. This rosy-nude gloss has real SPF, so reapplying through the day protects and adds a fresh hit of shine at the same time. Rosedust is a “your-lips-but-better” shade that layers over the stain beautifully or stands on its own.

4. A shimmer SPF for extra glow

The fun one, and the reason my beach photos look better than my effort level. A shimmer oil sunscreen over shoulders, collarbones, and legs adds a soft golden glow while it protects — dewy, not glittery. The kind of shimmer that reads as “I have a tan,” not “I rolled in body glitter.”

5. Sunglasses worth the splurge

The one non-drugstore piece, and the only thing here I’ll happily spend on, because I wear it constantly — all summer, every summer. Mine are Jason Wu, a clean, classic shape that never feels like a one-season trend.

6. A hat that folds into nothing

The unglamorous hero that does more for sun protection than any product I own. Wide brim, UPF 50, and it packs flat into my bag and springs right back — no crushed-hat situation. About twenty dollars, and I bring it everywhere.

Before I leave: tinted SPF all over, lip stain on. In the bag: the SPF gloss, the shimmer oil, my sunglasses, and the hat. That’s the whole thing — a few minutes of products I already love, doing double duty for a glowy, protected beach day.
